HVT was undertaking standard repair work (non-destructive testing, weld repairs, HVOF and machining) for a client when they indicated that their Terex MT4400 hubs were continually failing in a certain position. HVT were then engaged to perform engineering simulations to assess the cause of the failure and provide solutions to allow the client to get extended service out of the component. HVT investigated the problem and identified an issue with bolt arrangement failing to accommodate the required load, and this was causing the component to fail. The engineering report provided to the client was accepted and the findings actioned appropriately.
HVT were engaged to do an appraisal on the repair
of a cast iron planetary housing from an underground dump truck. The housing was severely damaged and warped, and a failed weld repair from another company exacerbated the housing’s poor condition.
HVT devised bracing to bring the housing back into
alignment (6mm out of round and dropped by 3mm), after which HVT have then forge welded the housing at temperatures in excess of 800°C. The housing was then machined to bring the housing back into alignment with the flange faces/PCD, and after significant planning, preparation, forge welding and machining, HVT successfully repaired the cast iron housing and it was returned to service.
High Velocity Technologies repairs, refurbishes and fortifies the suite of earthmoving and general hydraulic equipment to OEM or custom specifications. This includes, but is not limited to, CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi and Terex off-highway trucks, underground mining trucks and loaders, front-end loaders, excavators, cranes, EWPs and dozers.
Cast Iron Cylinder Heads
A series of 6 cylinder heads from a Liebherr crane were suffering moderate to severe cracking due to thermal fatigue. The cracks had formed at the circumference of the valve stem, with the more extensive failure propagating down the bore. All 6 cylinder heads were forge welded, machined and pressure-tested successfully, and the crane returned to service.
CAT 793 Rear Brake Housing Spline Weld Repair
HVT was tasked with establishing a weld procedure and undertaking the weld repair of cracked splines on a CAT 793 rear brake housing. Over 30% of the splines were cracked and successfully weld repaired.
